Showcasing Wingsail Innovation in the World’s Leading Shipping Nation
Greece is recognized as the largest shipping nation, representing more than 20% of global deadweight tonnage and controlling a fleet of over 5,000 vessels. In this context, Posidonia provides a unique platform to connect shipowners, suppliers, technology providers, and service companies across the maritime ecosystem. OceanWings is delighted to participate in the event and present its latest wind-assisted propulsion technologies.
Highlighting the Upcoming Retrofit of a Rigid Tiltable Wingsail on a Bulk Carrier
OceanWings is preparing for the retrofit installation of a rigid tiltable wingsail on Maria Topic, an Ultramax bulk carrier. Scheduled for July 2026 in Japan, Maria Topic will become the first bulk carrier equipped with an OceanWings rigid wingsail retrofit.
This retrofit is part of WHISPER, a four-year maritime energy transition project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program. At Posidonia 2026, OceanWings will highlight its contribution to the WHISPER project and demonstrate the operational capabilities of its technology.
Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS): Addressing the Shipping Industry’s Key Challenges
The shipping industry is facing a complex environment shaped by fuel price volatility, geopolitical uncertainty, and the ongoing challenges of climate change. At the same time, these pressures are accelerating innovation and driving the adoption of new technologies across the sector.
OceanWings is positioned at the forefront of this transformation, developing advanced Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) designed to support the industry’s transition toward more sustainable and efficient operations.
Through its participation at Posidonia 2026, OceanWings will showcase solutions that contribute to decarbonization of shipping.
