From Retrofit Feasibility to Fleet Deployment: Optimizing Wind-Assisted LNG Carrier Upgrades through Yard Selection and Wind-Ready Strategies
Co-authors: France LNG Shipping, GAZOCEAN
The paper demonstrates how wind-assisted propulsion can transition from pilot projects to an industrialized solution for LNG fleets. Rather than focusing solely on concept validation, the paper addresses the practical challenges of fleet-scale deployment, including retrofit planning, shipyard selection, and wind-ready strategies.
Exploring the Synergies of Hybrid Electric Propulsion with Wind Assistance as an Enabler for a Zero-Emission Ready LNG Carrier
Co-authors: Wärtsilä
The paper evaluates the potential combination of hybrid electric propulsion with wind assistance. It presents a progressive yet technically mature design approach that can evolve further while minimizing the total lifecycle cost of LNG transport throughout the vessel's operational lifetime.
Together, these two papers reflect the technical and operational maturity of wind-assisted propulsion technology. Today’s attention of the industry is no longer on the technical feasibility, but on how it can be deployed effectively at scale and how to maximize its operational and commercial value.
During the event, Christophe Paillusseau (VP Sales Marketing) and Fabien Lecuona (APAC business consultant) will be present on site. OceanWings looks forward to meeting industry stakeholders to discuss how maritime industry can accelerate its decabonization path while preserving commercial performance.
